How we work

Board

The Association is governed by the General Meeting of members, the Council (84 members) and the Executive Committee (30 members), adopting all decisions necessary to its activity.

The Chairman is ABI’s legal representative. He convenes and chairs the decision-making bodies. There are four Deputy Chairmen, a Board of Auditors (three regular and two alternate members) and five arbiters. The General Manager (CEO) is responsible for executing the Executive Committee decisions and for administrative activity and ordinary operations.

There are also technical bodies: the Technical Committees and the Regional Committees. The first plan and control the activities carried out by ABI. The Regional Committees, one for each region, represent the Association in front of regional or provincial authorities and administrations. They also systematically monitor legislative activity and the application of laws and regulations affecting the banking system at local level.

General manager's staff 
Comprises the General manger’s staff (dg@abi.it) and the Office for Corporate Social Responsibility (rs@abi.it)
 
Regulatory dept.
Promotes and represents the interest of the banking system at national and international level vis-à-vis legislative and regulatory bodies. Provides consultancy and advisory services to members in tax, legal and regulatory matters of relevance for the banking and finance sectors. (dnst@abi.it)
 
Corporate dept.
It is the Corporate Department’s responsibility to protect, from a technical point of view, departments that deal with external issues in the corporate market.  This is in order to promote development, through initiatives aimed at strengthening, consolidating and expanding strategic business areas in the corporate sector. (dm@abi.it)
 
Retail dept.
It is the Retail Department’s responsibility to protect, within the context of the renewed policy to enhance retail client relationships, from a technical standpoint, departments that deal with external issues in the retail market. This is in order to promote development, through initiatives aimed at strengthening, consolidating and expanding strategic business areas in the retail sector and relations with consumer associations. Social Affairs dept.
Deals with national and European trade unions, negotiates collective agreements, offers consultancy and assistance to members in their labour relations and with problems related to the labour market, social security and supplementary pensions schemes. (asl@abi.it)
 
External relations dept. 
Created ad a result of the policy for improving the image of the banking system and strengthening communication methods, it includes the press office, the institutional relations office and the cultural relations office. (de@abi.it)
 
Research dept. 
Provides members and the market with data, information and analysis on the aspects of the primary trends in Italy and abroad which are significant for the banking and financial systems and for the market of reference, with the objective of facilitating comptetitive actions.  (ra@abi.it)
 
Internal resource dept. 
Whitin the ABi system, it woks to ensure standard methods of management, administration and control, aimed at the improved allocation and most effective and efficient use of human technological, real estate and financial resources. (dr@abi.it)
 
Secretariat-General dept.
It supports ABI'activities,  it garrisons the relationships with the Associates and guarantees the respect of the rules that preside to the organizational life dell' Association. It supplies technical-organizational support to members ABI participants to the intense activities of the Fbe and acts as from contact point with the other international banks organisation. ABI Galaxy

The ABI galaxy is composed of nine specialized agencies: 
 
  • Customer to Business Interaction (CBI) aims to find solutions for member banks to allow consumers to electronically connect with all the banks with which they hold accounts
  • ABI Lab: deals with applied technology for banking
  • E-committee: designs and realizes services and systems to support on-line banking activities
  • Consorzio Bancomat: it governs the Italian debit card scheme in order to enhance the development of Bancomat/PagoBancomat payment cards
  • Patti Chiari: aims to improve the financial education
  • ABI energia: is active on the field of energy
  • Consorzio ABI acquisti: a cooperative model for coordination of purchasing goods and services at  the best terms
  • Enbicredito: is in charge of training in the banking industry 
  • Ossif : It is ABI’s Anti-Crime Research Centre. In line with its goals, it promotes any initiative that may help prevent crimes against the credit sector.
  • Dipo: it  is an interbanking activity designed to support the development of operational risk management and create a methodology to gather and exchange information on operational losses suffered by members.
     
 Furthermore ABI oversee, ABC, Asset banking consortium,  ABIEventi, which organizes manifestations, conventions and seminaries revolts to the world of the credit and the finance,  Bancaria Editrice division is the association’s publishing and communication arm and whose ABIFormazione division is active in training.
