ABI represents the Italian credit and financial industry in all international fora, including the European Banking Federation and the European Mortgage Federation.
According to its statute, the Italian Banking Association promotes initiatives for the orderly, stable and efficient growth of the banking and financial system, with a view to increasing competition consistent with national and European Union law.
In particular ABI carries out its mandate to set bargaining guidelines on labour relations, employment policy and trade union relations for the entire banking industry, with the sole exception of the collective agreements of the Italian Federation of Mutual Credit Banks (Federazione italiana delle banche di credito cooperativo).
The focus is on:
• collaborating on a national and international level to resolve issues regarding the credit and financial sectors, and more general problems for the country;
• working for innovation in regulations and laws;
• organising studies and debates;
• defining consistent guidelines regarding labour relations, including the stipulation of collective labour agreements;
• providing information, technical assistance and consulting;
• drafting codes of conduct;
• promoting, in respect of the principles of free market competition, initiatives for collaboration between its members.
